100 Acres Indianapolis Museum of Art

It’s hot out but the 100 Acres at  the Indianapolis Museum of Art is full of shady spaces for a picnic an afternoon  nap under the trees, family photos and discovering nature and art IN nature. Lulu loved hearing the birds chirping, seeing the leaves falling, crawling around in the grass and practicing her walking on the trails. If the 100 Acres haven’t been a place your family has visited yet, don’t delay! Your family will see woodlands, wetlands, meadows and a 35-acre lake (which also is home to our favorite exhibit “Indy Island”. I’ll tell you a little more about that in another article.

There are currently eight pieces of art throughout the park and more art pieces will be comissioned as time goes on. In fact, Lulu and I saw a new instalation in the works when we were there last week. Our stroller did pretty well on the trails and so much of the art was hands on so that Lulu could climb and sit and play on it.

Admission is free and the park is open from dawn until dusk every day and getting there is easy to. Drive west on 38th Street and continue past the main IMA entrance, exit onto North White River Parkway East  Drive on the right. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Fishing is allowed with your Indiana Fishing License and if you use artificial bait. At 11am on Saturday and Sunday from April to September, 1 hour guided tours are available at 11am but if you have young children, if might be more fun to explore the park on your own or by using a map provided at the entrance or a mobile tour on your smartphone (www.imamuseum.org).
